Accessibility features of Opening Minds Learning

Opening Minds Learning offers accessibility options that provides a wide range of features to help make our content accessible to all users. With over 1 billion people worldwide living with some form of divergent ability, it is essential that websites are designed to accommodate a diverse range of users. Our features include accessibility adjustments for visually impaired users such as screen readers and high contrast options, as well as adjustments for users with mobility impairments such as keyboard navigation and voice commands. These features are critical to ensure that all users can navigate our website with ease and have equal access to its content.

How to use the Opening Minds Learning Accessibility features

At the bottom left of every page on this website you will see a blue icon that when clicked on will open a panel of available accessibility options.

  1. General Settings
    Here you can set the language, access a dictionary, review our WCAG compliance level, or choose to hide the interface completely.

  2. Accessibility Profile
    In this section you can choose to turn on a number of settings at the same time that are commonly used by types of assistive-technology users. For example users with visual impairments, users with a high sensitivity to seizures, reduce distractions for ADHD users, provided assistance for neuro-divergent users, set navigation to keyboard only, or optimize for screen reader support. 

  3. Content Adjustments
    This section gives you control over adjusting the content of the page. You can change the scaling of everything, or adjust fonts sizes, line height, and letter spacing. You can activate a text magnifier that will blow up the size of any text near your mouse pointer. If you find the default font is difficult to read these is an option here to change it to something you prefer. 

  4. Colour adjustments
    Here you will find settings for modifying the default colours of the content. You can adjust the colour of body text and/or titles, adjust the page background colour, adjust the  text contrast and saturation, or set the content to be monochrome.

  5. Orientation Adjustments
    In this last section you will find options for adding custom orientation aids. You can adjust the size andcolour of the cursor, highlight your focus, turn on a reading guide, stop animations, mute sounds, hide images, and add a reading mask or highlight hover.
